Dux Bellorum...Punic Wars?

I really like the Dux Bellorum systems, a DBA-esque game but with a level of tactical complexity due to the leadership point mechanism that makes it far more satisfying to play. It is really straight forward and easy to play and my 11 year old son picked it up really quickly so am keen to use it to get him into a bit of historic gaming. So last night I used the Extra Impetvs IV Carthaginian army list as a template to make a Carthaginian list for Dux Bellorum. It needs a bit of tweaking no doubt but this should work as a starting point .

    1. It should do, it is pretty easily adapted to lots of other eras.

  3. Hmm... That's food for thought.

DB is definitely an easier set of rules to learn than Impetus, and my gang and I have been trying to learn Impetus for our planned Macedonian War campaign but our middle-aged brains just don't seem to be able to store all that information.

Maybe this is the way to go too.

  4. For us the main thing with Impetvs is to use a die or fingers to work out cohesion test target numbers, and to remember to add +1 vs missiles. Once in our brains it seems to stay there!

  5. I have to admit, that working out cohesion tests often takes the both of us by the time we are tired, at the end of the evening. Everything else is easy though.

Could be worse, could be 'points of advantage', then dice, then tests to kill and tests to disorder then....

  6. Interesting post, Dux Bellorum does seem very DBA'ish.
