New storage shed

With selling our house and downsizing I needed somewhere to store my terrain and gaming stuff. I've slowly started moving my gaming gear down to my bach but there too I am short of space as there is no garage or outdoor storage to speak of- and I've no spare room inside. To solve this problem I  bought a wooden kitset shed to keep my terrain and bits and pieces. The only problem is I needed to pick it up from near Oxford in North Canterbury (a 320km round trip and and then take it down to the bach, another 100km or so from home).

The location is a tad challenging, my bach is down a steep hill and there wasn't much in the way of access to the only spot where the 3m by 3m shed would fit. We have a bit of a car parking area up the hill above where I wanted to put it  and the only way to the site was down a steep bank so we had to do a bit of clearing of shrubs to give us better access.

The shed came as a flat pack which easily fitted onto my trailer and was ready to assemble.

The only spot I had for it was on one of my outdoor decks at the back of the bach and had no easy access down to it.

Man (or in this case woman) handling the walls down the slope. My wife was press ganged into helping.

The walls go up- it has a sort of bunker look to it.
 Putting the roof on.
 The view from above.

Only the doors to go.

Completed- and I still have a wee bit of my deck to enjoy the late afternoon sun :)

And the view from inside over the countryside out towards the Southern Alps.

Putting my feet up after finishing.

Next stage to get all my terrain etc down to the bach :)

Impetvs- Cathage v Celts

Gaming Room update. Concrete went down today so is now drying.

lowly getting back into painting. I have painted up 6 stands of rear ranks for my Celtic warband and also a unit of Black Tree  Design cavalry.  I have some Black tree Celtic infantry to paint up but am a bit concerned that they dwarf the Warlord Games and Foundry ranges os am pondering whether or not to get more Foundry Celts to add to the army instead.

Tonight Kent and I got together for  a 40 pt rematch of our last Cathage- vs Gaul game.

I now have Extra Impetvs 4 so was using the new Gallic lit in that, which meant no more VBU3 javelinmen but the option fo taking some heavy foot. as per usual I opted for 3 commands, a small cavalry command, a large warband command and a smaller command of heavy foot.

Cavalry (poor commander)
2x cav, 1x skirmisher

Light Foot Command (Average commander)
3x large warband (vets in front)
2x warband
2x skirmishers- javelines
1x cav

Heavy foot command
2x large solduri (VBU 6)
2x warband
2x skirmishers- javelins
2x light chariots

 The Celts deploy.
Kent' Carthaginians- he had 2 commands with:
2x punic cav
4x Spanish scutari (javelins)
2x vet infantry
3x infanrry
3x skrimsihers
2x elephants

 A rather nicely painted elephant.
Turn 1. I opted to put most of my army on opportunity to hold it back till the right time but let my cavalry advance, screening the flank.
Kent reacted by ending his punic nobles forward to investigate.
In the centre our skirmishers clashed and his superior troops (VBU 3) soon drove my skirmih screen back.
Meanwhile on my right the Carthaginian advance continued,
Turn 3 or 4. And still the Celtic warband wait their orders to attack- about the only tactical decision we get to make, when to release the horde.
 Wait for it...wait for it....
The cavalry clash and my cavalry come off second bet and are routed form the field.
Was that the signal we were waiting for? Time to advance then!
In the centre the heavy foot crash into the Veteran spearmen and in time will come off second best.
Even the chariots tried to run down a few Spanish scutarii.

The warband drove the elephant back and, as so often happen in Impetvs, the battle breaks down into a series of disjointed fights with both sides desperately trying to get to win the command roll offs to activate endangered commands.
My right wing is starting to collapse but I also have Kent's troops on the ropes. Who will break first?
On the left I am finally making inroads having driven back the pesky skirmishers and advancing into the Libyan spearmen but the casualties have not been light.
Booth sides are rapidly approaching their break point.
Even the chariots are thrwon i to try to turn the tide of battle in our favour.
Our right flanks have utterly destroyed each other, I am left with my general and a stand of warband (5 pts out of 24) at the end of the final rounds combats but Kent's command is also shattered.
On my left the final rounds combats also broke this command and the Celts returned home to lick their wounds as did the Carthaginians. Both sides were utterly exhausted and retreat to lick their wounds.
Result
As usual a great game. As so often happen it came down to a race to break the other army first and in the end we both lost but had a lot of fun doing so in game that really went to the wire. I am already looking forward to a rematch.

New gaming room- WIP

Yesterday I got some underlay and carpeted the gaming area of the storeroom/workshop beneath our new house with some carpet I had salvaged from one of our flats when we were recarpeting last year- I knew it would come in handy sooner or later. Today's job was to cut down a 6x4 table to snuggly fit between the beams supporting the floor above so I now have a 6ft x 7.5ft table set up and ready for action.

Of course the rest of the room is still a bit of WIP- there is a large area  that gives access to the undernearth of the house in the top left corner. I'll add some louvre doors to hide that storage section and finish off the gib on the walls and it should look quite good.
Below is the area I was going to convert to a rather large gaming room (the space is about 9 metres x 6 metres). We still intend to fill it in and add windows and doors for large games room/hang out area for the kids.

Hopefully this week Kent will be available for a game of Black Powder.

Gaming Room

One of the benefits of moving to the country has been a 3 bay (10m x 6m) farm shed that I am slowly converting to a gaming room. I have been using our double garage but slowly working on closing in this shed and making it gameable.

At present it lacks power- and will continue to do so as we have just spent far too much money putting a new bathroom in our house. I can run power to it and set up temporary lighting if required. The roller door was installed just before Christmas. I decided to go for a roller door rather than window as if we ever sell the property the shed can easily be converted to a workshop or some such. I also need to get windows put into the north wall to improve the lighting and also the airflow.

In a couple of weekends we will be holding our Annual FoW weekend here- fighting the Firestorm Bagration Campaign with players coming from Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington to take part. It's BYO beers, and food for the BBQ but a place to crash is provided (just bring a sleeping bag). We are expecting 12-16 of us for the weekend and the first weekend, held last February as a FoW Doubles Comp was a lot of fun.

Plenty of room inside. I've a couple of tables and a table tennis table for the kids- but can easily fit 6 tables for FoW and up to 8 at a squeeze.
