Dux Bellorum- Aurthurian Britons

My Aurthurian Briton force for Dux Bellorum is now half done.

3x units of armoured infantry (shieldwall)
1x unit of cavalry

I've gone for simple basing on these guys- rocky ground, static grass and a green silflor clumps (late summer?). You've got to love LMB Studio transfers!

I have to add 2 units of Saxon allies (warrriors) and 2 more units of Cavalry to complete the force. In time though I'll add some Wardogs and Bows rather than the Saxons.

  1. Great stuff. Like the colour choices on the warriors. What base size did you go for, they look a bit wider than I've gone for.

  2. Cheers Vladdd, we use 8cm widths for everything and for close order foot 5cm depths, warbandy types get 6cm depths and skirmishers 4cm. Its the same sizes as e use for Impetvs and hen i get time we'll use them in Hail Caesar too.

I thought I'd go for simple black and white shields for these guys and they turned out pretty good. Originally I was going to go with red shields but am glad I didn't.

    1. Thanks Rodger- I think 90% of the work is done by the LBM transfers though I could never paint anything even close to those!

  6. Your choice of silver, black and white makes for a great looking bunch! Isn't it cool when you can base something that'll port across 3 different rulesets?

    1. Which is the main reason I've not tried Saga- I don't like the idea of single basing and don't like Sabots. This basing is fine for all the rules I play- I prefer to adapt the rules to my basing rather than my basing to the rules:)

I look forard to seeing your Saga project grow though Monty

    2. I was watching a game of saga yesterday at the club, first time seeing it play, and it didn't "grab" me to much. yes the single basing wasn't appealing but some of the combat results struck me as been a bit off, for ex a bunch of guys with in chainmail, heavy inf warband type charged into a slightly smaller bunch of bowmen, medium/light medium inf type no armor, you would expect carnage on the bows, well the warband got literally demolished with only 3 casualties to bows in 1 round. ok yes I admit there was some good rolls from bow but to me it was off. the bow should have done most of the damage in shooting (got couple guys in the game) but once the heavies got among them they should have been ground down.

Ill be keeping an eye on future games people play at club to see if this game was a "blip" in how the game plays

      cheers

    3. From what Poochie etc have said most of the forces die most games.
